Eric Forsyth; Ph.D., CAA

Welcome to My Online Portfolio!

Forsyth1
The culmination of my formal education was earning my Doctorate in Sport Administration from The University of New Mexico in 1995. As a full professor at Bemidji State University, located in beautiful northern Minnesota, my two primary duties are teaching sport management courses and supervising field experiences.
With a passion for interscholastic sports, I regularly publish in trade journals and state association bulletins, and presented at international, national, regional, and  state conferences. Through these endeavors I have had the privilege of working with  several "key players" within the interscholastic sport arena.
Lately, writing textbook chapters has been a great thrill. I just finished two chapters that will appear in a new textbook "Branded: Branding in Sport Business." Currently, I am writing a chapter on interscholastic sports for an update edition of "Contemporary Sport Management."
NASPE / NIAAA has recently appointed me as a panel member for the graduate interscholastic athletic administration curriculum standards. The purpose of this newly formed panel is to provide protocol for academicians seeking to offer national accredited Master's sport administration degrees.
On a personal level, I recently have also been writing stories on my outdoor pursuits especially my bear hunting adventures, which are soon to appear in 'Bear Hunting' and 'Whitetales' magazines. Yet more importantly, when all is said and done, if my wife can say I was a good husband and my kids can say I was a good dad, then I have truly accomplished something worthwhile.

The culmination of my formal education was earning my doctorate in Sport Administration with a minor in Marketing Management from The University of New Mexico in 1995. I have been a professor at Bemidji State University, located in majestic northern Minnesota, the past 18-years. My two primary duties are teaching courses in sport management and supervising field experiences.

With a passion for interscholastic sports, I have published in both juried and trade journals, presented at various conferences on the national and international level, and written several text chapters on issues related to high school athletics. The most recent chapter appears in a textbook titled 'Contemporary Sport Management' that is published by Human Kinetics.

I served as co-editor for a new textbook titled 'NIAAA's Guide to Interscholastic Athletic Administration' that was published by Human Kinetics as well. In addition, I am a founding member of the interscholastic athletic administration graduate curriculum standards endorsed by the National Association for Sport & Physical Education and the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA).

I have received the distinction as a certified athletic administrator through the NIAAA certification program.  My next goal is to achieve the certified master athletic administrator credentials.  To date I have completed 25 leadership training courses.

My most memorable role was having the distinct pleasure in serving as President of the Minnesota AAHPERD Association.

On a personal level, I have written stories on my outdoor pursuits especially my bear hunting adventures, which have appeared in outdoor magazines. In addition, I wrote two company profiles that appear in a sport brand textbook highlighting their climb to the top in the hunting and fishing industries.

I am a member of the 'Iron Butt Association' for riding my motorcycle 1,000 miles in under 24-hours; three times.  Furthermore, I am also a member of the 'Motorcycle Road Warrior Association' having logged over 70,000 miles.

Yet more importantly, when all is said and done, if my wife can say I was a good husband and my kids can say I was a good dad, then I have truly accomplished something worthwhile.
