The culmination of my formal education was earning my PhD in Sport Administration with a minor in Marketing Management from The University of New Mexico in 1995. I have been a professor at Bemidji State University, located in majestic northern Minnesota, the past 17-years. My two primary duties are teaching courses in sport management and supervising field experiences.
With a passion for interscholastic sports, I have published in both juried and trade journals, presented at various conferences on the national and international level, and written several text chapters on issues related to high school athletics. The most recent chapter appears in a textbook titled 'Contemporary Sport Management' that is published by Human Kinetics.
I am currently serving as co-editor for a new textbook titled 'NIAAA's Guide to Interscholastic Athletic Administration' that will be published by Human Kinetics as well. In addition, I am a founding member of the interscholastic athletic administration graduate curriculum standards endorsed by the National Association for Sport & Physical Education and the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA).
I have received the distinction as a certified athletic administrator through the NIAAA certification program. My most memorable role was having the distinct pleasure in serving as President of the Minnesota AAHPERD Association.
On a personal level, I have written stories on my outdoor pursuits especially my bear hunting adventures, which have appeared in outdoor magazines. In addition, I wrote two company profiles that appear in a sport brand textbook highlighting their climb to the top in the hunting and fishing industries.
I am a member of the 'Iron Butt Association' for riding my motorcycle 1,000 miles in under 24-hours; twice. Furthermore, I am also a member of the 'Motorcycle Road Warrior Association' having logged over 65,000 miles.
Yet more importantly, when all is said and done, if my wife can say I was a good husband and my kids can say I was a good dad, then I have truly accomplished something worthwhile.
